As Dahlia grew her front right paw began to turn in - after x-rays and casting during growth it became apparent she has a genetic leg bone length discrepancy. Dahlia walks on her wrist at times, which would cause chronic injury and infection in the wild, this makes Dahlia non-releasable. She is in training to provide public education about Connecticut's only marsupial.

Alex was found covered in oil with his sister after being dumped in an oil field in Texas. He was brought to CT by DCAS where Karyn and Brent met him and knew he would be a perfect match as a companion for their elderly Golden Retriever. It took Alex a while to learn his size and how to successfully live inside a home and understand basic manners. Now he is a couch potato when he isn’t “on duty” patrolling the house, and announcing visitors at the door. He is eager to please and staunchly devoted to caring for the kiddos in the family.

Alex can read the body language of other dogs better than any human and focuses on closely watching new members as they are introduced to the pack (even temporarily) and ensures all members know their place in the pack and gently guides new members with appropriate and effective corrections.

Millie - Canine Evaluator

Millie came to CT at 19lbs with an extreme case of heartworm and sores all on her legs. With much needed vet care her health improved and she gained 15lbs to put her at a healthy weight! It took much longer and a lot of patience for her mental health to improve. When first adopted Millie wouldn’t leave the living room, it took her 3 weeks

Millie came to CT at 19lbs with an extreme case of heartworm and sores all on her legs. With much needed vet care her health improved and she gained 15lbs to put her at a healthy weight! It took much longer and a lot of patience for her mental health to improve. When first adopted Millie wouldn’t leave the living room, it took her 3 weeks to go into the kitchen, and it took her 2 months to go into the bathroom. She needed time to decompress and experience everything as if it was the first time. She was slow to warm up to people at first, especially men, and hated light wind and rain, never mind a thunderstorm! It took a while but Millie has gone from very unsure about every situation to facing every new experience head on!

Millie still has a strong maternal instinct and demands, yes demands, that she cleans and potty the bottle baby kittens fosters that come through giving great exposure and socialization skills to the younger crew.
